Comparison

Sydium vs Buffer

Buffer schedules the posts you write yourself. Sydium writes them in your voice, then schedules and publishes them for you.

Buffer is one of the best-designed schedulers ever shipped. We built Sydium because once you cross 5+ platforms and want AI that learns your voice, the per-channel model and generic AI start to hurt.

Editorial

Why Sydium exists

Buffer pioneered social media scheduling. Clean interface, fair pricing for 1-3 channels, generous free plan. For a long time it was the default answer for solo creators who wanted things to go out on time.

Sydium was built to do something Buffer does not: learn how YOU specifically write, then generate content in your voice and publish autonomously. Buffer's AI Assistant runs on GPT-4 and is genuinely useful for generic suggestions, but every prompt starts from scratch. There is no persistent voice profile.

The other gap is pricing shape. Buffer charges per channel ($5/channel on Essentials, $10/channel on Team). At 8 channels that is $40-80/month. Sydium Pro is $28/month flat (annual) for 5 Autopilot accounts and unlimited connected platforms. Different shape, different math.

Honest picks

Where Buffer wins, where Sydium wins

Buffer is the better choice when...

Buffer beats Sydium in five specific areas. If any of these are load-bearing for you, Buffer is the right pick.

  • SimplicityBuffer is one of the most intuitive social tools ever shipped. If other tools overwhelm you, Buffer's minimalism is a feature, not a limitation.
  • Free plan3 channels, 10 scheduled posts each, no credit card. One of the most generous free plans in the category. Sydium's free tier is shaped around AI credits, not steady scheduling.
  • Track record and transparencyBuffer has been around since 2010 and publicly shares revenue, salaries, and company decisions. That earns trust a newer product cannot fake.
  • Platform coverageBuffer supports more platforms including Mastodon and Google Business Profile. Sydium covers 9 (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, Bluesky, Threads). If Mastodon or Google Business is essential, Buffer wins on coverage.
  • Manual scheduling speedIf you write your own captions and just need them to go out on time, Buffer's minimal interface is the fastest path.

What Sydium includes that Buffer doesn't

  • AI Autopilot with three modes (Full Auto, Batch Review, Individual Review) and engagement-drop guardrails - Buffer has no autonomous posting
  • Brand Voice AI that trains on your actual posts, tone, emoji habits, and signature phrases - Buffer's AI Assistant starts from scratch every time
  • Comment-to-DM automations with keyword triggers (comment GUIDE to get the link) - Buffer has nothing like this
  • Leads & CRM-lite with engagement scoring and Hot/Warm/Cool/Cold intent detection - not a Buffer feature
  • Muse - daily content ideas from Google Trends, Hacker News, YouTube, and TikTok filtered to your niche
  • AI image generation (FLUX) and AI video generation (Kling) built in - Buffer is text-and-image scheduling, no generation

FAQ

Common Questions

Is Sydium more expensive than Buffer?

Depends on channel count. Buffer Essentials is $5/channel/month (annual). At 3 channels that is $15/month, cheaper than Sydium Pro at $28/month (annual). At 8 channels Buffer is $40/month and Sydium Pro covers the same for $28 flat with AI content, Brand Voice, and Autopilot included. The break-even is around 9 channels, or the moment you want AI that does more than generic captions.

Buffer has an AI Assistant. How is Sydium's AI different?

Buffer's AI Assistant runs on GPT-4 and is free on all plans. Useful for generic caption suggestions, tone adjustment, translation. It does not learn your voice. Sydium's Brand Voice AI analyzes your existing posts across connected accounts (up to 50 per platform), builds a persistent voice profile, and scores every draft against it.

Can I switch from Buffer easily?

Yes. Connect your accounts to Sydium, let Brand Voice AI analyze your existing posts (including ones published via Buffer) to build your profile, and configure Autopilot. CSV import on the Sydium calendar handles up to 350 posts per batch if you want to move a queue. Your scheduled posts in Buffer keep publishing until they are done.

What about teams and agencies?

Buffer Team is $10/channel/month with unlimited team members but no client portals, white-label, or agency features. Sydium Agency is $79/month (annual) with 10 team seats, client portals, approval workflows, and per-client Brand Voice profiles.

Does Buffer have a free plan worth using?

Yes. Buffer's free plan is one of the best in the category: 3 channels, 10 scheduled posts each, no credit card. If you are starting out and not ready to pay, it is hard to beat. Sydium's free tier is 200 AI credits per month, shaped for trying AI features rather than steady scheduling.

What is Autopilot and why would I want it?

Autopilot is what Buffer does not do. Sydium's AI creates content in your voice, schedules at optimal times, and publishes automatically. Three modes: Full Auto (AI runs, you review after), Batch Review (approve a week at a time), Individual Review (approve each post). Full Auto includes engagement-drop detection that pauses if metrics slip.

Does Buffer support more platforms than Sydium?

Buffer supports more platforms including Mastodon and Google Business Profile. Sydium covers 9 (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, Threads, Bluesky). If Mastodon or Google Business Profile are essential to your strategy, Buffer wins on coverage.

Does Buffer have a unified inbox?

Buffer's Community inbox covers comments on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Threads, and Bluesky. It does not include Twitter/X DMs, TikTok, Pinterest, or YouTube. Sydium's Unified Inbox pulls comments and DMs from all 9 connected platforms with AI reply suggestions in your brand voice.
